1993 4Runner Lacks Power
All,
Here is a more detailed post, describing the lack of power issue. I have an issue with my 4Runner and I would like to see if I am on the right track. The truck seems to lack power and bogs down under load at 40 miles per hour. There is no ck engine light. I recently changed the timing belt, Water Pump, idlers etc. After the job truck started right up and runs smooth at idle & rev's in park no problem. I have it timed 10 Deg BTDC. Going up a hill, giving gas, engine bogs down and I get a distinct ticking from my foot area, I can also hear this ticking under the car. Sounds like noisy injectors, but inside the engine. I will play with the timing tomorrow and try different settings. I will also try Sea foam. Here's what I have done so far to this truck. I know some are not relevant but I'm open to all ideas.
1. Timing belt
2. Upper Idler
3. New tensioner
4. Water pump
5. Plugs, Cap & Rotor
6. New stock air filter.
7. New Battery
8. New P/S Pump
9. Oil & Filter change.

is this a new issue? or has it always been slow? what size tires? what gear ratio do you have? what motor/ transmission? if auto, when was it flushed?
your full tune up will help alot, but there are still a paths left to follow..

Yeah it was never a powerful truck, but it didnt bog down undr a load. Tires are the same ones Ive had on for about 4 years, brakes were done about 6 months ago. Tranny seems to shift well, it feels like it floods when I hit the gas with O/D on, it bogs down and starts shuddering, and the ticking noise starts and goes away as speed increases or I let off the gas. Tires are Uniroyal, Lorado Coss Country P235/75R15. Trans has never been flushed, filter and fluid changed about 50K ago.
Its a 2WD 6Cyl Automatic, stock gears, I have done no mods to this truck, its totally stock.

Update
Here is an update if anyone else faces the same issues. I adjusted the timing to 5 Degrees BTDC, and used 5 oz Sea Foam in Oil, 5 oz down the intake & 16 Oz in a full tank of midgrade fuel.
Overall its runs much better.
