1989 22re new timing chain 7000 miles died

1989 22re new timing chain 7000 miles died

new timing chain, timing cover on 1989 truck 22re died while driving around ,a little backfire than engine light turns on. turns over but rotor does not move. work was done by a Toyota mechanic on the side. any ideas on what may have happened ?

Are you saying the Rotor in the distributor isn't moving ?

yes we pulled the distributor cap and cranked it over rotor did not move

Ok you need to pull the valve cover off or you may be able to pull out the distributor and shine a light and make sure the chain is still on. Your chain may have come off or cam sprocket/gear .There is a roll pin in the dist gear. maybe it failed . Also did yaw replace the timing guides and tensioner too?

yes he replaced everything, pulled head and had it machined. Have thought about distributor gear coming loose

i was in a honda civic that broke something in the distributor drive area, the tow bill was over $900, even with aaa long distance coverage :0

i therefore want to always carry a spare distributor for my 22re...

please keep us posted on what the problem was.

Talked to the guy that worked on it and he said would check it out, probably pull the valve cover and see what's up. He's just hard to get to show up and I want my truck back !
