WTB Rear Drive Shaft

Hi. I broke my rear drive shaft on the free way. Where there is supposed to be a universal u joint it just has a single pin. It broke off the flage from the drive shaft that holds the pin too. What are my opitions. I am thinking I well need a new drive shaft and covert it back to a universal u joint.

Here is a pic of my truck again. I need to get it up and back home asap. By next friday I would like to get it home. I will take pictures tomorrow since I have duty today. I can also look for use as long as they fit. Will any 1st gen fit?

Junkyard would be an option if you have a stock length shaft (i.e. you have not had the length changed). If you have the early style shaft with 8mm bolts on the flanges, that will be a little harder to find, if you have the 10mm style, those would be more common. Or a drive line shop can supply the missing parts and rebuild your shaft.

And pull the remnants of the rear shaft, lock the front hubs and use 4H to drive it back home in FWD if all else fails.

I thought about locking the front and driving it home with 4wd. No back road, it's about 69 miles away from home. Would locking the front and driving it home hurt it? I depated for a while about doing this. Maybe this weekend at mid night or so I will, lol.

As long as the front end and drive shaft alignment is in decent shape it should drive fine. I've driven hundreds of miles, including on the highway at speed in FWD on my '85 with no issues. If you have a front locker it can be a little dicey at first until you get used to the feeling, but with an open diff, it is pretty much like driving a FWD car.

Aww found some pic on PB. Here is what my looks like. Does it look like I need to Pumpkin it? I heard this term before, maybe the last owner telling me it's ben done or reading a while back.

Here is where it broke, I thought it was just a pin but someone at work said it is universal.

What can be some case of this? Just a wear and tear u-joint? It started to rattle gard about 40-55 or so but I guess I never though of it much as the streets of milwaukee are ˟˟˟˟y and I assumed it must be the SFA feel.

Buy 2 Triple drilled flanges and just about any rear Toyota one piece dshaft will work in a pinch. Get em cut to fit locally at dshaft shop. I get it done all the time front and rear modified for $300 or less.

Thanks basr5, I'll keep you posted. I'm going to drive the truck home friday/saturday night. I am going to take the driveshaft in to see if it repairable at a local shop. If not I will contact you by Tuesday, I should be off pretty early Monday to go to the shop.

I was looking around and found this site, the guy seems helpful on the phone. I've been thinking about having one custom made with new measurements. The toyota flang from nwoffroad they are 70+ a piece already. Getting a new one made I think might benefit from it verus trying to find a stock one and probably having the same issue again.

I was looking at this site.
http://www.driveshaftsuperstore.com/...ive_shafts.htm

I'm still trying to figure out the cause of it breaking, I think the lift might had play a big role in it, IDK this my 1st truck, I perfer my mr2.

My driving habits, I drive 70 miles each way to work, I average about 70mph (I was going 74mph with the driveshaft snapped) on ˟˟˟˟˟y roads. I think a new driveshaft made for the lift will be better for me to run 70mph.
