Need another engine on the cheap!

Truck is a 1983 Toyota 4x4 w/the 22R....I found a engine locally (junk yard) but the owner thinks it came out of a 79-81 pick up...Will this be a direct bolt in? Sorry for my dumness this is my first toyota.

79-80 pickups do not have a 22r engine. 22rs didn't hit till 81.

yes 79 and 80 had the 20r. I would not recommend getting a 20r unless you had access to just the head.

If it is a '81 22R (no powersteering) will it work on my '83 w/powersteerting? I am waiting on a call back to confirm exactally what year the engine is.

should be a direct bolt in as long as the head has the provisions for the power steering system. I don't know about the sensors/vsv's and such, but changing over your old sensors etc etc should be ok.

go see the place and look at the head in person. See if it has the threaded holes for the power steering brackets and what not, don't take the guys word for it.
