1985 SR5 “Vertigo” seat pattern

Looking to buy fabric from a SR5 seat in the “vertigo” pattern found on some 1985ish pickup/4runner SR5 seats.
All I’m looking for is a chunk of the fabric so the seat can be in any condition.
Brown preferred but I’ll take what I can get.
I’m restoring a couple 85’s and found a vendor to recreate the vertigo pattern as long as I can provide a sample.
So we could do a trade for the fabric I’m going to have made, or parts or cash. Whatever works best.

I responded to your email, but I've got a torn seat that I can send you, or I've got two good condition backs.

Hey yotasonaplane, saw your message. Sorry i cannot part with my only spare seat cover in case anything(teenagers) happens to mine.
But I hope you can crack this scarcity problem and i will buy material from you if you can!

Let me know, I'd be interested in getting a few yards of the fabric!

Well it sounds like we might have a sample of the grey fabric, thanks jakey poo!
I'm still looking for a sample of the brown because that's what I'll be using in my trucks.
That being said, if I cant find one I'll probably just take a stab at the colors based off of pictures.
At least the texture, font, and spacing will all be like the factory material.
May just have to get some of the grey made as well since there seems to be some interest.

This is the vendor: https://smsautofabrics.com/
This is the original thread I got the idea and vendor info from: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ptions-302175/

I don't have specific pricing, quantities, or time frames yet but we'll know after they get the sample.
I'm gonna see this one through and keep this updated.
And if anyone happens to see some ratty old brown seats around in the meantime lets make a deal.

That vendor also found or recreated Toyota fabric for user “Pinemind” on t4r.org.

Yeah I may go the tweed route if they can’t do the fabric or it ends up looking like crap. Tweed is actually what I have in there right now, in good shape too. I’ll probably sell them when I put these new SR5 seats in.

When you get a sample of the recreated fabric post a pic so we can see it, because if it good looking I would be interested in getting a few yards.

So, how’d you make out with this, yotasonaplane? Were you able to get the Sr5 vertigo fabric reproduced?

I read some of the makers reviews online and a lot of them said he takes a long time to make the samples.

Unfortunately Cole1985 is correct.
They have my samples i sent and are currently "setting up the pattern".
At least so far they've had really good customer service but I've had to check in a few times to keep updated.
Sent them a gray sample as well as a brown one so they said those both should be able to be replicated no problem.
I was also working with a local upholsterer who has worked with SMS in the past and said the same thing; good work just a little slow.
Still wasn't able to get pricing, quantities, or an exact timeline despite asking directly, but based on asking around its probably going to be $1k for a few yards.

In the meantime, I've also acquired a complete set of brown vertigo SR5 seats for my 4runner AND pickup so I actually have no need for the fabric anymore.
I'm still going to go through with this though and I hope we get enough people interested to offset the cost.
Otherwise I'll just have to start reupholstering my headliner and carpet with this pattern and get the real vertigo experience.

SMS replicated a Mazda pattern for me a few years back. The match was spot on and the quality was first rate. The timeline was pretty long (18 months). The cost was $100 per yard with a 10 yard minimum for the first order. So yes, $1000, but 10 yards is enough for maybe 2-3 cars easily. Once they have the pattern in their computer, more fabric can be made and even color changes can be made. The is no minimum after the first order is made is how I understand it. Its that first initial order that makes it so expensive because they have to reconstruct the pattern which is very labor intensive.

SMS says final design is a few weeks out!
I’ll update when it gets in.

Cheers

Just emailed them last week and their response was "not quite there yet".
Glad I'm not in a real rush but geez.
I was also referred to a person on social media that apparently has a source for this design and I've messaged them as well so we'll see what turns up.

Just curious if there was any news from the guy we sent the sample to, and the guy on social media?
