Sourcing and installing drive axle

I have a 2008 4runner. I tore up the driver's side CV boot and it needs replacing. Both the Haynes repair manual and this site recommends just swapping out the drive axle for a new or reconditioned one. No problem, I head down the street to: Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, Checkers, and NAPA. None carry the part, nor can they order it for me. They can't even get a boot repair kit for me. I've checked online sources recommended on this forum, such as CVUnlimited, with the same result - nothing available. I was given a name of an import place in Denver, which I will call tomorrow. Also, there is a Toyota 4x4 rally tomorrow (Rising Sun Rally), so who knows, maybe I'll get lucky there.

So, are there no third party sources for this part? Do I have to go to the stealership to get this?

The problem finding a part is because your 4runner is so new. Do you have a warrenty for the 4runner from the factory. That would be your best bet.

Well, I assumed that any 4th gen axle would work - 2003+. Searching for a 2004 4runner and a 2008 on NAPA yields the same part # for both vehicles.

I do still have it under warranty - the full info is that I disconnected the sway bar before wheeling and didn't get it out of the way enough and it tore up the boot. Not exactly a warranty repair. I suppose I could play dumb and just take it to the dealer, though that doesn't sit well with me.

Okay, I have a line on a rebuilt one so I should be good. Still, if anyone knows of a reliable source it'd be great to know. It's usually wise to carry a spare on the trail, but at $500 for a dealer version it's not exactly trivial to do.
