A little history: I first saw Ken's sliders on a LC at Pismo- fantastic! I wanted a set for my 4Runner. Totally bolt-on, superstrong and no mod to the frame. Just what I wanted. well he was packed with work, then I was packed with work, but I have some time at the moment and thought I better get the ball rolling on this!
I finally got around to visiting Ken Hanna of hanna quality about making 4th gen bolt-on sliders. He has a very unique method that basically wraps 360 degrees around the frame rail instead of just one side of the frame.

U-bolts and beefy mounting plates- no drilling or welding to the frame.

This is the current refined model: Note he now uses solid 3/16 lasercut plate with circle punched hole as the round bar support. These pieces are precision cut and SOLID!



XREAS COMPATIBLE:Lasercut 1/4" plate
Look carefully and see the "U" white line- that will be notched out to make room for the XREAS lines.

This is the main slider, I believe.


Entire thing is shot-peened hardend, 2-stage powdercoated,( primer/black finish), Grade5 hardware.

**I want to know if anyone is interested in buying sliders or brackets**
It will help with bringing down cost so I figure a group of us can order from him.
2 options:
1. Complete bolt-on slider pkg. XREAS-compatible, finished "turnkey" approx. $750/set
2. Full set of lasercut XREAS-compatible bolt-on brackets (the you can weld any slider directly to the brackets-brackets bolt-on to frame) approx. $200-250.
He has some great reasoning behind the square main slider over just round tubes and the whole system has been tested in the harshest of terrain He is thinking of a design for the unique shapes on the 4th gen.
If anyone is interested, post here. He is going to be freed up to make them at the end of Sept. so I would like to know if anyone wants to join me on a "group buy" of either the sliders or brackets alone. Thanks.


Here is what he's working on at the moment

for some race in Malaysia or Thailand...

Hummer H1 axle- gears in the hub!

16" ground clearance under the pumpkin!

DOT-approved beadlocks, formed out of a solid coin of metal. AIR will route thru the center of hub to the valve-airing up and down WHILE u drive!

fox shocks
*forgot to mention it's a inline6 supercharged 400hp!

No difference in price or design.

The bracket is triangulated- which means ULTRA STRONG. I have never seen any other triangulated mounts.
I don't know if you noticed but you only need 3 mounts per side. That is how strong his setup is.

About price: I questioned Ken in detail about keeping the price reasonable. Using lighter weight stock, all round tubes instead of the rectagular, etc etc.

**Having said that, he might use a different stock because the 4th gen is lighter than the LC. We'll see when Sept rolls around**

But you take the average slider price for all-round tubing (@$300?), powdercoat (@$100?), welding to frame(dyi-$150?) and you're already close to $600 not including all the running around/ besides no bolt-on. I'm not saying it's cheap but I feel like Ken could make an outstanding product for us-for a fair price.

He put it this way---It's not the one big hit, it's the repeated hits; that's when stuff fails.
He designs it for a lifetime of abuse and doesn't want to be making something that will bend or fail 5 years down the line.

He showed us an example of what happens to other more common designs and lets say that Milton and I came out of his shop today understanding why he uses the materials and shapes he does.

There was some interest in this product HannaQuality

Here is Ken's response:
"To use the light bar the truck has to have a cage type setup in the bed
for the light bar to connect to. Is his truck stock? The cost of the
powered light bar is $800, not cheap and I am over 2 months out on
projects right now. If there is enough demand for the light bar it will
be a production off the shelf product.

Any idea how much the sliders will protrude from the body? I'd like it to serve as a running board while loading stuff on the roof rack. But I do not want it to protrude so far that is aesthetically challenging

I would defintely be interested. I would assume the sliders are strong enough to lift the vechile with a high lift and have no issues. Also would there be a possibility to have a color option?

A suggestion might be that he just makes all of them XREAS compatible in his design, to save on figuring out options.

I love the the no weld idea, which allows me to mount and remove them with no issue. I have seen people having reservations about bolt on sliders, but if they are strong enough life should be good.

I want it the same way as you, enough for use as a step but not sticking out to look stupid.
The exact shape and how far out can be determined when he does a test-fitting.

Yes that's the plan right now- they are all XREAS-compatible.

Yes they are ULTRA strong.
The only bolt-on I've seen is drilling into the frame- that relys on the bolts and strength of one side of the frame. Hanna's is a full-wraparound, no drilling which is why I noticed it in the first place- it makes alot of sense if you think about it.

Oh I want to make it clear:

1. Sliders (including brackets) powdercoated/finished/etc,etc - just unpack and bolt-on - is approx. $750

2. ONLY the brackets(you get your sliders elsewhere and weld them onto his brackets- then the entire thing just bolts-on to your frame)- approx $200-250

Can sliders really support the weight of the vehicle cause in my area they chain and put these giant rocks infront of all the offroad trails and to make it over the rocks you need to grind 1 side of the vehicle over the rock

Making it in is 1 thing but getting out is another ball game

i've had situations where i had a significant weight on the sliders and haven't had any problems. Sliders built for situations like this so it's expected to be able to survive harsh environments like what you mention. I'm pretty certain ken's will be as strong if not stronger to be able to support the weight of the 4runner.

That is what Hanna designs them to do. Sliders are also used to as a pivot point on rocks so they must be strong in that respect too. These are proven on modded 80's and 100's (both bigger and much heavier than a 4th gen) that regularly wheel Rubicon every year.

I found this rather eloquent post on ih8mud by Jim Brantley about Hanna sliders-and how tough they are:
"The first and most notable was at CM2002 on the Golden Spike trail.

All of a sudden I feel the front drop off a ledge (I'm thinking what ledge? I don't remember a ledge?). There's not much I can do as I wait for the freefall to stop and the front tires to hit the ground. But, they don't.

The freefall was only stopped when I set the entire front half of the cruiser down on the cat skid plate. You know that heavy sound and shock wave that is much louder and stronger than you expected? That's what it felt like.

After sliding off the rock I crawled under to take a look. Sure enough there was a nice battle scar where the powder coating scraped off. No dent, but a very nice gouge in the coating and lot's of "rock dust".

There's no doubt that hit would have damaged my catalytic conveters. That one moment of inattention could have been very costly. (ever price replacement cats? Remember there are two! )

Of course, there have been a few other hits, but it's the "surprise" hits like that make a believer out of me.

I'm still confident these suckers WILL protect the cats.

I've bent my rear control arms, tweaked my transfer case skid plate, dented my muffler and striped my driveshaft. But at least my cats are in good shape. ;D"

Btw, for all of those that feel that this mod is too expensive.... think again!

body damage (cha-ching!)
dinged slider (just repaint!)

I'd pay $$ for a good set of sliders to protect my body so it doesn't have to sit in the body shop for body repairs.

Ken Hanna did not want to take orders until mine was finished and on the truck also. I'll be taking pics as this process continues so everyone is kept up to speed.

Hey FirstToy,

You can remove the "?" from my name...I'm definitely interested. I'd also like to see photos of the finished product mounted (top view too) before committing. $750 is kinda steep. Is there a chance the price will come down with more volume? Nonetheless, if it's strong, professionally done, looks and fits good, then I'm in.
