Alternative sunvisor?
I'm tall. I've never ever needed a sunvisor in any vehicle as they hide the entire road for me. I brought home a 2006 Tacoma last night and didn't realize how thick the sunvisor was until I pulled up to a stoplight and couldn't see it.
So I'm thinking I have two options, remove it completely or replace it. I kind of like having a few CD's stashed up there, so a thin visor that I could attach a CD case to would be nice.
Anyone else tinker with this interior mod?

Not having looked to closely at a modification there are a few options that pop to mind... you might take a look at a pair from a lower trim level then yours... the base level trim ones are usually pretty thin.
Other then that you could remove the covering and using just the metal arm attach a piece of smoked plexi-glass to it in the style of the Rosen brand sunvisors sold for use in aircraft... check www.rosenvisor.com for ideas.
Looks like they actually have just introduced an automotive product line.
Here's a link to the automotive pdf catalogue. They have them available for the FJ, taco and 4runner 2006 and newer. If you needed to you could probably install them in an earlier model as well. http://www.rosenvisor.com/auto/insight4pg.pdf

Aviator beat me to the punch on the base model visor recommendation.
If the visor serves no purpose to you, have you considered eliminating the visor entirely and making a something that is dedicated to CD storage? Maybe you could use the existing visor mounts to attach the CD holder and keep it closer to the headliner.

a few things come to mind. Lund sun visor and remove the visor's and place the CD's else where.
develop some sort of sliding sun visor that can slide up underneath the roof matterial.

If you wanted to go the illimination route there are shelfs you can get that attach to the visor mounts. If you check out ebay.au there are usually some there. There is a US mfg. that makes a similar product for full size trucks but IMO it is comparatively ugly to the aus. built products and would'nt fit anyway.

I drove 600 miles yesterday and got so tired of not seeing that after 20, I pulled over and removed the darn thing. Much better. I'll have to post pictures of my POV so you can understand how bad it was. I think the sun shade is of bad design. Some 5'5" Japanese engineer didn't think an inch thick sun shade would be a problem to anyone.

If you are wanting to just keep it removed I know they make a cover for the part that bolts up to the roof for mazda miata's (this is a very common mod on miata's) It looks as though it is the way it is made. It may be the same size or the company might make one for other vehicles. Might be something to look into.

Here's a link to get you started.

There are others without radio slots and lights but they are all pretty much similar to this one.
Similar idea not across the front but will give you storage
http://www.consoles.com.au/Toyota_Hilux88_low.htm
Be warned a lot of the aussie stuff is top grade but pricey... check ebay.au for some deals on used ones. use key words "Top Shelf" or "overhead console"

That Rosen Visor is a nice little mod! I don't have any issues, but would love to be able to see through my visors. Any idea how much the 4Runner specific visors are, before I call them?
