ABS Pump seems to run at every stop.
I just bought an '05 Taco D/C with the A/T and it seems that if I'm stopped at a stoplight for more than 30 sec.(which is almost always) it sounds like the ABS pump turns on for a second. I can kind of feel it too. Is this rather normal?

Are you sure it's the ABS. Newer 4Runners have an electric booster for the brakes instead of vacuum, maybe the Tacos do as well. Mine turns on every second or third time I brake. I aslo hear a relay clicking when it does.
Have a look at the master cylinder, if there is no vacuum booster and it looks like it belongs on the space shuttle then you're probably hearing the booster motor, which is normal.

I've never heard or felt that with my '06 Tacoma.
Just in case it is the ABS pump, be careful. I had an ABS pump on another vehicle all of a sudden come on when it wasn't supposed to, and I had almost no brakes. It's a good thing the parking brake worked. I pulled the fuse for the ABS, which allowed me to stop normally, although I didn't have ABS.
If you aren't good at troubleshooting this problem, please find a qualified mechanic that knows Toyotas. This could be a serious safety issue that could cause major problems for many people.

So yesterday it didn't do it at all but I hardly drove it yesterday. So I decided to drive to my mechanic who is a whiz and he said that these newer trucks just make noise. For one, and this is what he thinks it is/was, the smog pump turns on after about 5 hours of driving to purge itself or something like that. I probably couldn't hear it while driving, only when I was stopped.
But time will tell if this is the case for me.

05 4Runner Same Problem
I've noticed that when I come to a stop and I sit there for a minute, I have the same problem. At a dead stop and with my foot still on the brake pedal, I feel the brakes re-apply themselves a little. I feel it in the brake pedal and the veh moves forward slightly. I didn't think it was a problem until now. I will have the dealer check it out. Thanks for this post.

after starting the engine and traveling approx 20-30 feet i here a low sounding humming sound that lasts about 2-3 seconds. according to the dealer this is the abs pump firing up and is normal.

Here is a link to the thread that I mentioned in my last post: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f117...r-idle-125257/
The slip joint issue is mentioned (and axle wrap may have been mentioned too), but I think it is the transmission shifting to 1st gear after the vehicle comes to a stop. Whatever it is, I think it is due to a computer programming issue. And I don't think it is a major problem.

its a normal conidtion. most of 1st time owners of toyota's new trucks and suv's arent used to electric booster with accumulator setup. if something was wrong, you'd have an abs light and thd vsc light on. dont go toying with that accumulator booster assembly tho. its very pricey and you need the factory scantool to bleed it.
