4th gen- Stop the beeping?

How do you stop the beeping every time you use the remote? It's frickin' annoying! I like the flashing lights but the beeping

On my old truck, the panic button would always go off in my pocket. I tore out the guts so that button wouldn't work anymore! Happiness was then felt for the duration of it's life with me

I got some data from AllDataPro on how to do that with my VIP 3000 system in my 99.

The procedure is probably similar...give me a while to look it up

Ok,
Took me a big fat 60 seconds..

try this :

This TSB describes the procedure to adjust the volume of the buzzer used for audible confirmation of Wireless Door Lock and rear power window down operation.

Affected Vehicles

1999 MY 4Runners equipped with OEM Wireless Door Locks (4 Button Remote)

Adjustment Procedure

The volume of the buzzer can be selected between levels 1 through 5. Level 3 is the standard setting.

To Adjust Buzzer Volume

1. Have the key out of the ignition switch and any door(s) open.

2. Depress and continue to hold down the UNLOCK button on a remote. Initially, the power door locks will activate to unlock and the taillights will flash twice. After 5 seconds the buzzer will sound twice to signal entering the adjustment mode.

3. Keeping the unlock button depressed depress then release either the:

^ LOCK button to adjust the volume up or

^ BACK WINDOW button for volume down.

For each activation of the lock or back window button the buzzer will sound once and the volume will change 1 level. Once level 1 or 5 is achieved each button activation only results in the buzzer sounding once.

4. Release the UNLOCK button when the desired volume level is selected. The buzzer will then sound twice to signal exiting the adjustment mode.

Not sure you can adjust the volume; all I've seen is how to switch from the beep to the horn.

Worked like a charm on my 02! Thank you!

Checking the TSB's, it all depends if your security system was port fitted or factory fitted.

The above instruction work on port fitted only.

My 99 came with only keyless locking so I bought the port fit kit at cost and fitted it myself much to the shock of the service manager. He was impressed.

Took two hours and the new loom plugged directly into existing loom connectors.

So, in short, I have no info yet on Factory fitted but I can tell you which model has which, I think....

jharris2,
You posted that you saw info on changing alarm from the beep to the horn. I see you have an '03 4Runner. Was the info for an o3 and where did you see it?
Only info I can find requires cutting a horn wire which will probably disable the complete alarm system and void the alarm contract.

My '03 Runner goes beep- beep, toot -toot and the neighbors are saying *bleep *bleep* bleep *bleep *

Thanks,
Tom

Tom -

For the 2003 model, look in the Keyless Entry System manual. It was simple -- something like insert key, turn ignition to on, push the LED in and out 4 or 6 times, then turn key off. The manual is short, so it will be easy to find.

If you don't have the manual, look for my earlier post on the RS3200 VIP system -- I believe Fujitsu Ten also makes the keyless entry system for Toyota and that you can get that manual from their faxback system.

I'm out of town on business so I don't have the truck with me and can't be more specific. Will be back late Friday if you need a follow-up post.

Bleepineepin Honkin & Bleepin

Mystery of the honking horn solved. Have discovered that the dealer gave me an after market alarm system rather than the factory upgrade I reqested. To kill the horn on this system the alarm shop indicated they could disconnect a relay. Dealer has offered to pull the system and installl the Toyota upgrade system. At that time they can defeat the horn and the beep.
Will keep you posted and try to find out exactly what they do...Hopefully they will be able to reprogram the auto door lock features for me also. Reading all the posts on that topic have not seen any info the works specifically for an '03 4runner. Have followed the info in the Owners manual, pp 17, stopwatch in hand multiple times; doors locked and unlocked . Locks actuated as book indicates but no change in locking function.

Re: 4th gen- Stop the beeping?

I found the solution! I found it here, http://www.customtacos.com/tech/inde...x_v2&id=34&c=6. Just unplug the tweeter. I now have a silent keyless entry, thank god! That chirp sucks!
