RT - yeah, i pointed that out as well, but there's no harm in taking it in anyway and seeing what they say. after all, the technician was the one who brought it up to Yosmany.

During my past 2 services at the dealer they have lubricated the suspension but no change in the noise. My noise is a little more specific or at least how I came to hear it. I haven't heard it over bumps that I hit straight on but rather when I am doing a turn and hit a bump or a driveway mid-turn. This sounds unusual but I have to do a three point turn to park everyday so I hear the noise often. It depends on my speed and angle into the bump but it does seem to be getting worse. I might be able to duplicate it just while making a left turn pretty soon. That will help because then I will be able to do it in the dealer parking lot pretty soon. Does anyone have experience duplicating issues with or at the dealer? Can you take a technician for a ride?

Thanks....
I have EXACTLY this issue.

When I drive from one of our sites to the other, I use a tight driveway which has a severe downhill switchback.

As I go to full lock right with truck kinda leaning to the left, I get a bad clunk sound that is similar to the sound you get if you badly install springs and they clatter against the seat.

I CANNOT get the dealer to come with me to this location so he just ignores this issue.

David ... have you checked out the TSB for that? it's a different issue than what Yosmany seems to be having ... his sounds like it's the bumper in front, and there's a corresponding TSB (well, except for the fact that the TSB seems to be for the 2003 model year) ... but there's another TSB regarding the bad clunk at full lock ...

did you see that one? i think more people have that problem than the problem Yosmany is having!! check over at t4r.org as well, as a lot of those guy seem to have had the bad clunk at full turn as well.

Yeah i took it in today, and the tech went for a drive with mem and it did the clank over ever bumb, big and small, fast and slow.

So they are ordering the "A" arm bumper stops and a new skid plate. We'll install it next tuesday, and hopefully it's one of those two.

I'm confused. Where does the skidplate come into play with the clanking???

Thanks for the info...

I have user access on the alldatapro data base so can cross reference the TSB's to my VIN.

Thanks

Well, there three skid plates. one in the very front, one under the oil pan, and one under the gas tank.

The one undee the oil pan is right under one of the cross memebers of the frame, and when your hit it, it hits the cross member, therefore clanking. So rather than try to figure out where the clanking is coming from, the are just replacing everything.

Does anyone elses skid plate clank with the frame? It's going to be right at the end of the skid plate, where the two lips for bolts come out at.

there's no reason the skid plate should clank with the frame unless it is loose enough to move around.

Hmmm, wonder what the chances are that you could get Toyota to fix this (or even listen to you without laughing) if you installed a lift. Better go around a few sharp bends and bumps before installing....

so are you keeping your truck now, Michael??

the TSB states that it is the bumper MATERIAL that is causing that clanking, and adding a lift would not change the material out of which the bumpers are made. there would of course be an advantage to figuring out if you have the clank before installing the lift, but it still stands that installing a lift should have no effect on it if indeed the problem is with the bumper's material. an honest dealership would realize/know this.

My 2003 non-xreas had the "clank" sound on bumps. The dealer tried lubrication, but the problem reappeared after a month. Then they disassembled the suspension, steering etc and rectified the problem (1-day hard work based on some TSB). The service guy said it was related to some steering component that was replaced. It's been 2 years since then, and no more clanks ! Of course, I have perpetual complaints agains the rattling sun roof which never seems to get resolved. And then my front seat frame broke. They welded it back and wasted my time, since the whole seat was then shaking ! Finall they replaced the whole frame (but I can still feel a thud on the bottom seat).

I am getting a loud clank from my front skidplate. See pics. You said the one on yours was the middle one right? Mine is the front skid but is doing a similar thing or at least it sounds like it......All bolts are GNT.....

Any one have the tsb detals?

Clanking noise

I have a 06 SR5 V8 4X4 with the clanking noise from the front over sharp bumps as well. I am puzzled. Was there eventually a fix for this? I only have 3200 miles on my rig. It sounds like it's coming somewhere from the front left of the car.

Well I tested my moms 4runner 06 4x2 sport edition and it made the same noise. I am concluding that this is normal for this vehicle.

I have been getting what seems like a similar issue as well in my 06 limited w/ 30k. It only shows up when making a very sharp turn in forward or reverse but is only intermittent. Haven't had much luck with searching "clunk" on this board or t4r.org or toyota120?

Regarding the noise in sharp, bumpy turns, my old Pickup and new 4Runner make exactly the same metal on metal creaking sound at full lock in either direction. The fix that's worked for me is a dab of thick grease on the control arm steering stops or the corrisponding spots on the steering knuckles. The grease washes away over time so reapply it a few times a year.
