08 Taco light question

My mom has a 2008 Tacoma and she has killed the battery a few times now. She has early dimentia and has a hard time remembering to turn off her headlights when she gets out of her truck. Is there any way I can wire her headlights to shut off with the key? And why didn't they put in a buzzer to let you know your lights are still on? I tried to find a writeup on this but couldn't find anything.

The car should beep when the lights are on and the key is out of the ignition. It is the same beep as when the car is locked/unlocked, when a seat belt is not fastened, etc. Would that fix the problem?

yeah I too have noticed the lack of a buzzer as well...

You could possible so a modified version of the fog-light mod that I just did a how-to on, only instead of messing with the fog light relay, you could mess with the headlight relay(s) and wire them to a source that's hot only when the ignition is on

Thanks superbleeder. I read your write up earlier, not much help on my 83 but it was a good read and will work on my exploder. I never thought of that for her headlights. I will give it a shot. If you don't mind me askin for help if I need it I will give it a shot this weekend.

There is no beep, no buzzer, no lights flash, nada. Im not sure why they did it that way. I have called the dealer and they wanted waaay too much money to install a buzzer that should have been there in the first place.

I've quickly learned this with my new Tacoma. I didn't think I was the type of guy to leave my lights on by accident, but I've done it probably 3 times now...

superbleeders fog light fix works on the headlights. I just did a temp thing with some clips to try it out. Now I just have to do a more permanent wire job and my mom will be good to go. Thanks for the help, its little things like this that upset my mom when they happen so this will make her feel a lot better.
