'03 vs. '05 4Runner V8 Towing?

The original '03 V8's came with the lower rating hitch (5000 lbs) that the V6 had, but about mid-year, there was a production change to the heavier (7000 lbs) weight distributing hitch for the V8's. If I remember correctly, once the hitch was upgraded in mid-'03, all the subsequent V8's came with the higher rated hitch if they had the factory tow package installed.

As I recall, some people were getting a free upgrade to the heavier hitch for a while after the production change was made. But it would probably be difficult to get a free one now. I think there is a hidden hitch available that will do the trick for you.
