Yeah I was not too stoked on the condition under here. But I was expecting the worst of it out of the passenger side (this is where it was hit)but it was definately better than expected. Should I leave my swaybar off?
I also found out that my calipers were dragging on both sides so I am going swap the calipers and hope the problem isn't my MC or booster.
I am also debating taking my bearings and seals back (they were $160 for national/moogs!) and getting the marlin or wab bearing kits because they include the hub gaskets I need and they are cheaper. I am having trouble locating the aisin rebuild kit though. The parts in the hubs all look ok and the hubs locked nice and smooth before dissasembly. Maybe just the o-ring to keep the water out?

 

That it is but as you can see in the last photo My driveway is far from level. Even on jackstands the cars is pointed downhill. I jumped on the front end and wiggled it like a kids big toe before I started working on anything. It's not going anywhere. However before i start work this morn' I am going to swap out those cinder blocks.

 

Ok, I got the front axle out and although I am still using landscaping block there is a block per corner of each jackstand and a pice of 3/4 ply on top of that to distribute the load. I am at the piont that i need to drop the trans but am all by my self doing this So i would like to know how i can do it without a helper or trans jack. I don't really care what happens to the trans but i don't want to mess up my tcase. should I drop the crossmember gently with a jack leafing the front of the trans sitting on the still attached swaybar then pull it back and let it land on a large log?
Really hoping someone will chime in here.

you could take your truck to a body shop and have them check the frame. they will have all of the necessary measuring tools and specs and hopefully they know how to use them. a frame machine is really the only way to get it adjusted. you can try and chain it to trees and use a come-a-long but it is really dangerous with the amount of tension in the cables. if one would happen to snap it can do some serious damage and travel a long way.

However as you can see I need to find another jack to get the car up high enough to roll it out.

 

Nice work on the "invention". Maybe your bottle jack on stacked wood under the front crossmember to jack it up higher? Jack it up, advance the jackstands and repeat. Slow, but it might work.

 

Thanks, the idea worked great. I tend to forget that cars come with jacks but, the stock jack was perfect condition. I took off my oil pan to change the gasket, and next i'm going to take off the timing cover and replace all those gaskets.

I had thought i had heard a few plunks while i was draining the oil. Upon closer inspection of the pan I found these little buggers. Anywone know what they are so I can fix it?

 

Are they metal or plastic???

And, that "invention" has already been invented. Its called a transmission jack

 

Magnet says plastic. I Dremeled a little corner off and it looks like they are defintely plastic. I'm kinda worried about where the rest is too.

 

My money is on part of the timing chain guide or tensioner, just went through that. Since your are replacing the gaskets on the timing chain cover get new ones and replace them while you are in there. Be sure and get the metal backed ones, I had some plastic ones that only last 12K miles.

 

Did yours snap? The left hand piece looks pretty jagged.
