Yakima Roof Racks>

Looking at buying a yakima system for my 2nd gen.. Was wanting opinions from u guys about whats the best set up? its for snowboards (2) I know which carrier i want to get but am wondering about mounting Q-towers and I also found on their website about using ***Tracks/54" w/ Plusnuts
Part # 8001127*** from Yakima, for use on 4runners without a luggage rack or rails on the roof...kinda like the idea because I could have them mount in the back of the roof rather than over the doors like with the Q- towers... Anyone used the track system from Yakima? It says can not be used with a sun roof? think it would be okay also says *do not have to remove headliner?? I would like to get the yakima rails/tracks? any help opinions suggestions would be appreciated...Thxs>>>

best advice is not to buy this stuff new. people sell their stuff all the time used at about 1/2 the price. check your local claissifieds so you can check the condition before buying

You'll be just fine with that system...it ought to stay clear of the sunroof if you don't move the first bar too far forward. But I don't know how you are not going to have to mess with the headliner. Won't you have to drill into the roof?

I have a Yakima with q-towers on my '92 runr (sunroof included) and it works just fine. It distributes weight on the top better in that location than being at the rear. I did have to remove the factory wind fairing and used a Thule fairing that adapted wonderfully with a little mod'ing and Yakima hardware.

However, IMO, I prefer Thule racks because the tower feet are metal. So, I have a Thule on my '86. I use it for lumber and heavier stuff, though.

(Ditto post above!!!)

Ya for sure, I was just looking on Craigslist>>> online classifieds...Waaay cheaper and I was at G.I JOES and seen they have all hardware and bit/pieces you may need sold seperately. Gonna buy used for sure, Still wondering about those ***Tracks/54" w/ Plusnuts
Part # 8001127*** from Yakima though ...that would be ideal for me thanks for the input.

Ya I am gonna call Yakima, If you are curious I went to the "build" screen on Yakima and choose all my settings for my runner and then selected "naked" roof or something along those lines....I have no clue how you could do it either without removong the headliner??? I live on the rainy westcoast don't wanna put any holes in the roof really.....

i am just talking about the base towers (416's) and two 50" (or are they 48"?) bars. lookee lookee: http://cgi.ebay.com/Thule-416-Tracke...QQcmdZViewItem

here in LA, ive seen those feet go for about $20-25 and the bars go for about $40 to $50. you can build up from there

hey canada,

whoops, i missed the part where you wrote that you dind't have the tracks. the 416's use the tracks. you may be able to buy it used or check the junkyards. they are always to be found. or also, ebay.

i personally would not do the over-the-doors mounting option. i cant tell you how many times my rear passengers would lift themselves up to get in and self-bonk themselves. when i saw my mom and grandma do it, that was the end of that.

Ya I want to get the yak or thule Rails to mount on the rear like the factory ones but was just looking at instructions in PDF on thules web site and looks like quite the job drilling holes in the roof and using silicone... I don't know man would hate to mess that up....If I do go that route I will buy the tracking NEW and get the rest used. I do see how you don't remove the headliner in the diagram though.

Canada, you want a deal?
I will sell you my Yakima crossbars, and the the mounts to mate it to you 4Runner, plus my Load Warrior rack all for $150 if that is fair.

I want it out of my home now.
Here it is
http://www.pnw4runners.com/runs/41203/5.jpg

http://www.pnw4runners.com/runs/41203/21.jpg

Does not come with the shovel, Hi-Lift jack, or the axe.
You get the Load Warrior basket, the two crossbars, and the mounts to mate it to your roof.
The Load Warrior comes with the brackets to mate it to the crossbars.
I will also throw in the light mounts that hold the lights, not the lights though.
Also I have the net for the Load Warrior too.

The crossbars are from 1988 or so and a little nicked, but other than that they are in great shape.

I believe these are Q Towers too, and they have locks on them.

I had a buyer a few months back, never heard from him again, never saw his money either.

PS, no shipping.
I do not ship big items, costs to much.

I have the tracks mounted on my 1st gen 4runner. best system I have found. I drilled all the way through but they have a way to mount them without dropping your headliner. 6 holes per rack and they provide sealant. Yakima blows Thule away but none of their stuff is cheap You get what you pay for. heres a couple pics with it geared up with the rack. I dont have pics closeup of the rails but they are nice and look ultra factory when the rack is removed...also you can slide the rack along them putting it anyplace you want it on the roof.

When I get home from work I will dig out the email, and I will PM the contents of it to you instead.

Already have two others here waiting to see if you are going to buy it or not
