Would you buy this?

Hey fellas, I'm new to the forum and have a question. I found a 1989 pickup with the 6VZE engine and 5 spd tranny. The truck is clean inside and out and has 130,000 original miles. The engine has been rebuilt due to a blown head gasket. I took it to my mechanic who offered to do a pre purchase inspection. He said all was good, except for the rear end may need bearings replaced or a new ring and pinion.

With that in mind, is $4,300 a fair price? How big of a deal is the rear end as far as price or ease of doing it myself. Thanks.

Your rear end could cost you $2-300+ depending on how bad it is and what parts/route you choose in rebuilding. Unless this truck is mint condition in and out outside of the rear end, I'd go for much lower, probably 3500 or so.

Engine code is wrong, Its ether a 3VZE (stock) or upgraded to a 5VZE.
If 5VZE then yes a good price.
If 3VZE then $2500 $3K at most.

It's the stock v6 as oppose to the 4 banger I believe.

Price is a little high, but also depending on where you live is going to effect price. Finding a clean truck in the rust belt is going to have a higher price then what would be in other parts of the country.

Don't jump on the first truck you see for sale. Unlike what most ads say these truck are not rare, there are millions of them. Take your time and you'll end up with a good one.

Location is a big indicator. I've seen these rigs sell for over $4k in California, whereas other parts of the country wouldn't pay more than $3k for one. For 130k miles though, that's in good shape... too bad you missed it. Hard to find a 24 year-old vehicle with that low of mileage.
