so on friday my 91 4runner caught fire and burned the hood dist, alt, cap rotor, air box and tubes, gas return line, some wiring for injectors and air meter now my question is.... would u rebuild it or let it go and get a new one and start fresh, just a little back ground on what i have done to this rig is 5 speed swap, lsd in rear diff, motor rebuilt less than a year ago, just put new front brakes, master cylinder, rock sliders, winch and bumper, hid kit and housings,

i have an adjuster coming out tomorrow to look at it, what would u feel is a good price if im offered to buy it back?

You know the #1 answer, right? Time to put a 3.4 in it.

I've seen engines with more damage brought back, but I have no clue what it would cost $$ wise or time wise.

fix it for sure, thats nothing to re do! just a good time for some upgrades!! don't need a 3.4 swap but a cold air intake, supra maf meter, some nice wires and lines would be great! nice new distributor too!

 

i kind of want to fix but also want to just get a newer 4runner. the wife is telling me to just dump so i wanted to see what people had to say... thanks for the input. we will see what they want for buy back.

 

if you dont want the truck let me know the buyback price it should be like a couple hundred bucks and ill buy it from you. 3.4 3.4 3.4!

When a women is involved for the most part no matter what you do it will be wrong.

Not knowing your financial status can you afford to just go purchase something newer?? Do you need something to drive like right away??

Do you need a check from the insurance company to go shopping??

The bottom line is do you really want to spend the time and money to fix this one?? The mechanical and other repairs are not all that hard.

As long as I am building and repairing these trucks for fun as soon as it is because I need to it gets old real fast. Then after 30 plus years it might be understandable.

im waiting on a check to fix or replace the 4runner, what ever i get im going to stick with a yota, the wifes issue is that i drop 200-500 a month paying for items or replacing things that broke. and she just wants me to get something else.

I do not know what pull yards you have near you, but using the prices at the local pullapart here in Ga, I could fix that mess with under $200 max. Spend a day at your local yards gathering all the parts, hoses, air filter box, and the wiring harness from 89-92 model.

 

I was first offered $900 for my truck and turned it down and argued with the guy and asked to speak to his manager, 3 min later he came back on the phone and offered me $1900 and I keep the truck. Mine is a stripped down 88 22re with almost 300k on it, so you should get offered more, but I agree with everyone, buy it back and find another DD while you fix the 4runner.

 

3.4 swap is the best way to go.... How did it catch fire? I know the 3vze's have tons of issues with V-Locking when your 4-wheeling but that wouldn't cause a fire.

 

from what i can tell and everybody else saying that a fuel line had a pin hole and sprayed it on a hot motor and it went up.

 

definately fix it, delete the egr while you are at it too. I bet you could find at least the stock parts that burned up pretty easliy from someone on here that just doesn't want them, same with craigslist, i see the airboxes on there occasionally for a few bucks. The cold air made a huge difference on my 3.0, and even more when I removed the egr afterward.
