Wiring Question II: SR5 Instrument/Gauge Swap

I want to swap out the basic instrument panel in my '89 4runner and put in an SR5 panel with a tachometer and gauges. The 4runner has an auto tranny with some Electronic Control Transmission lights on the current instrument panel. I know I will need a different oil pressure sender. Other than that will an SR5 panel just plug right in to the current wiring harness and work properly? -- Matt

I just did mine last night and everything went smooth. I changed the oil pressure sending unit, and lucky for me the coil was already wired up for the tach. Mine is a stick so I don't know if it's different for an auto.
I used this https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...4&page=1&pp=25
and this https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/oil-pressure-sending-unit-80976/ make sure you have the correct sending unit for your cluster and DO NOT HOOK IT UP UNTIL YOU CHANGE IT, people say it will ruin the guage. hope it helps. If you need anything else let me know I can post pics.

That's what I thought, but had heard some conflicting opinions. And thanks for the links. -- Matt

I have an auto too. I recently swapped in the manual SR5 console. I plan to just hook a green and a orange LED up to the transmission NORM and PWR leads. I haven't decied yet where I will locate them... I have the factory wiring manual for an 86 if you need it I can scan the applicable pages...

I've never had my 4runner running yet and I don't know anything about the auto tranny. Thanks for the offer to scan the wiring diagram, but I have a Toyota wiring manual for this sucka. Even with that though I was looking for advice from people who had done it. Thanks. -- Matt
