Wiring Harness Help 88 3.0
#22
I should probably rename this thread or start a new one as we're well away from the wiring harness now, but latest updates:
So, I took the truck to a mechanic. They said I needed a new fuel pump and quoted me an obscene amount of money ($1000) for the job. I had the truck towed home, and opened the hatch under the rear seat to see how much work I was in for.
Here's an interesting one.

Is it just me or does that line look like its pinched? I've compared it to some other images of the fuel pump bracket on here and some other forums and mine just looks wrong. The PO had the fuel pump replaced by a shop last year. I'm wondering if they dropped the tank instead of using the access hatch and hit that hardline on something on the way back up.
Fuel pump working harder to get past that kink = burns out faster, plus the truck wouldn't be getting fuel as easily as it should. Thoughts?

Update:
New fuel pump, filter, and pump bracket installed, truck was running again. Still had the code 22.
Bought a new pigtail for the CTS and installed it... still showing the CEL. Took a good hard look at the plugs on the back of the motor and had an epiphany. The PO said that the CEL had been on ever since he got the truck back from the engine rebuild. The plugs for the CTS and the sensor that activates the CSI were swapped. I swapped them... and no more CEL! Truck also started up much better than it did before.

Wow, that's pretty dang cool! Good work!!
In regards to that line, someone probably tried to break the fitting loose and it twisted the line. That's my guess. Those fittings are notorious for giving problems, at least all the ones I've fiddled with.....

Had the same similar problem one time on my 4runner. I replaced the head gasket a long time ago and after hooking everything back up the truck started and ran for about 2 mins then cut off and would not restart.
Code from the computer showed "thermo switch/coolant temp" forget what number but after seeing that i had a hunch that the coolant temp sensor and the cold start time switch connectors were swaped... as there are right next to each other and the same connector...
Swaped back and truck started and ran fine there after and beyond.
Oh and by the way i can't believe that shop quoted you 1000$ to replace the fuel pump when it takes all of 15 mins to change it. >_<.... Pitiful world we live in..

i guess he didn't want to do the job. easier than you thought, huh?
