wierd electrical problem with 87 4runner
Hey all. Ive just been having some problems with my 4runner lately. Sometimes when I go to start it in the morning the first time I try to turn it over, it just kind of dies out (without turning over) A few tries later it will turn over and start up. The first time it does it thought its like my battery gets disconnected because My clock resets and so do all my radio presetsI checked the terminals and they're clean, the cables are also good too). A couple hours ago I stalled it doing some wheeling and then it just wouldn't even start and the battery was completely dead. I was able to be towed out and push started it. It wouldn't jump at all and the starter would just crank and die out also.
The last time it did this, i tested the battery after charging it and it said it was fine and it was fine for about a month.
The obvious solution would be to get a new battery, but mine is only about a year old. If a new battery and alternator don't help the problem, were do you think I should start troubleshooting?
FYI about two months ago I got caught out in a rrain storm with the top off and my whole truck was soaked. I was able to start it after that, but every time I put my clutch in, it tried to turn the starter over, and it blew a bunch of fuses and no lights or radio worked. I think it just dried out and and everything but my radio works again. I think there is just some sort of wierd electrical short somewhere because my dash lights will flicker in and out and the E brake light will turn off and on randomly. Any help is appreciated. New battery is going in tomorow and I ordered a GM alternator with the TG alt adapter.
thanks
