Why are there two cutouts on the top of the piston and not just one?

Why are there two cutouts on the top of the piston and not just one?

Looking at my fresh pistons here, I've seen it before but just started thinking about it... why are there two semicircular valve cutouts on the top of the 22R pistons? There's only one exhaust valve and one intake valve per cylinder. Seems like the way these cutouts are, even if there were 2 exhaust valves, they would interfere, right? Shouldn't there just be one cutout and have it centered? What am I missing here, just curious
