whining/ grinding noise in front end

Hey guys I own a 92' Toyota pickup and to cut right to the Chase it has a grinding / whining noise in the front end when its moving and when I go to slow down to stop there's a thump in the front end ....also there is a ticking coming from the dash and my cousin noticed that my front drive shaft is always moving so he thinks that the hubs might be stuck and it keeps trying to switch from 4wd back to 2wd , could that be the ticking or grinding noise?

92 pickup does not have automatic hubs.
If you don't have manual hubs you have drive flanges on a ADD system.

Pretty simple to see if your front dshaft is turning in 2WD. Go slow and have someone look.

I'm getting the same noise too nowadays, not sure what it is either. I think I'm going to try greasing the zerks on the front shaft when I get home but maybe the u joints are shot anyways...

Well it looks like it may have been the front diff as it appears to be shot now; no 4WD.
