Exclamation where is the transmission control module located

just wondering where the transmission control module is on my 1989 toyota pickup. it is an 22-re with an a/t, 4wd, cruise. i have to start out in low with the shifter and manually shift up. swapped out the tranny and still have the same problem. is there something that i am missing. is it not the control module? if not, what do you think it is. i thought maybe shift position sensor but then people act like i'm crazy when i ask about that like it doesn't have a shift position sensor. does it not?

The control module is under the center console in front of the shifter.

It sounds like something is not plugged in.

I know this is an old post. But I am having the same issue that you described. I can start out in low and manually shift. Sometimes when I disconnect the ECM for 30 minutes the truck shifts perfect, then it will go in limp mode. I always get a code 63 that indicates the number two shift solenoid. I have checked the solenoids from the ECM and have removed all three solenoids and checked ohms, applied 12 volts and performed the pressure check as described in the FSM. I was checking to see if you figured out your issue.

Thanks.

Every time I've had this problem I replaced the shift solenoids and fixed it.
