i'm going to have my clutch replaced soon, 135k miles now. i've heard nothing but great reviews for these 1200lbs clutch kits, i'm gonna find a shop to do it. my question is, what would be the difference on the amount of labor involved between buying a new clutch plate and buying a clutch "kit" from Marlin and Wabbit.

around here, it's $300-350 for a normal clutch job, parts, labor flywheel re-surfacing inlcuded. considering the cluth kits includes everything pretty much bolt-on, what would be a fair amount for me to pay. i don't bargain with mechanics, plumbers, etc. i believe for me to get what i'm asking for, i'd pay what they want to be paid for.

also, just to be safe, i'll have the rear main seal replaced. what would be if i have the slave cyliner replaced(necessary??) new master cyliner was done nov. 06.

 

Book time including flywheel is 6.2 hours according to all-data. my labor rate is 70.87 making the clutch labor $439.39. i would wager that labor rates in your area would be higher. i sold a clutch job a few months ago on a 92 runner that was around $900 with master and slave cylinders. most clutch jobs in my area range from $700-$1000. your results may vary.

 

ide hold off on the slave its cheap but can easily be done later. 300-350 isnt too bad if thats including parts. i would sugest diy if you have the tools and time its not to hard of a job and its a good learing experience. see if you buy the marlin kit if a shop will install it and what they will charge then

 

i dont know how much the whole job would cost. but as far as the slave cylinder goes, thats only $30 and can be done at home. the more stuff you have the shop do is only gona make the price go way higher.

 

the few guys i talked to know about re-surfacing the flywheel, but none of them know the specs, when i told them the 0.026" step, i could tell they were just lost. marlin has the bolt-on flywheel for $99 i'd buy i think it will pay itself off in the long run.

 

I was quoted $400-$450 for the Labor only.

 

I did it in three weekends at my folks. Not that hard of a job.

 

just a pain in the butt moving the tranny around and lining it up and stuff. especially on a 4x4.. with the crossmember right under it you dont have much room. have fun!

 

Around here there is a guy that works for the yota stealership and he does work on the side at home and he charges $150 labor. You may check around and see if any of the people in your area does that. My brother-n-law and myself did mine and it took 8 hours to replace.
