im looking at installing a set of BI-XENON hids. Doing a retrofit into a set of H4 housings. have a question though... How do you actually wire the lights? The stock headlights use the three prong conector. What do the HIDs use?

Depends on what kit you get. If you do it right with progetors and $500 then you will have to do it all custom.

But if you get the conversion kit for $75 shipped on ebay then all you have to do is:

Take out old bulb
Mount HID ballast
Plug HID into the old light connector
insert HID bulb into the light husing

I have one and it works GREAT. Look at the link in my sig to see the light from it. Only thing i would change would be getting the Bi-xenon for a little more $$$ but the H4-2 bulb works fine.

The light output form the kit is litterally night and day from the normal bulbs. just don't get anything kigher than 6000K HID, they start turning blue there and you lose light. I got 5000K and it is perfect, nice and white and bright as heck.

I highly recommend you spend some time at HIDplanet.com. Best to not beat around the bush and go straight to the wizards for HID questions.

maybe im retarded...but i cant find the kit for an 86 toyota pickup.

Don't search by your truck, they are all the same the only differnce is the bulb type. I think that the 1st gens use the H4 bulb but i would check that out first i know the 2nd and 3rd do.

This one gives you both high and low beams but one of them is regular halogen light not HID

LOL, i was thinking 4runner gens, didn't see you had a truck.

But yes those lights use the h4 bulb. If you get the single style HID then be sure it is the H4-2 bulb so you have bith high and low beams.

If you are using that listing i gave you it already comes with the H4-2 bulb they just don't add the -2 as all the bulbs are a -2 model. but you can e-mail them to make sure.

Actually i was meaning ask if it is indeed the H4-2 bulb as he most likly won't know if it is for the 86 yota. All that matters is the bulb type. when i got mine i just picked the cheapest H4-2 kit i could find with the 5000K color and it worked perfect and took less than 30 min to install.

IMHO, please don't put a pnp kit in those housings, Ive seen plenty of those housings on the road and even with halogen bulbs they glare pretty bad. A little over a year ago i was in the same boat you are, i had just discovered hid kits and was considering buying a kit for my Tacoma, luckily a member on here informed me on the cons of a hid kit in a halogen housing, first off the arc in a HID bulb has a different shape and puts out light differently than a halogen bulb, even it you have the arc in the same exact place as the original filament the light output will be slightly different, usually this equals glare, i will say though some halogen housings respond better than others, in the end its up to you, i hope whatever you choose will work out.

Yea, im debating not doing it. All my dads cars have real HIDs and my VW has real HIDs importaed from germany..its SO hard getting into the yota without HIDs. I dont want to put out the money for them on a wheeler either. Just looking to get MAX life, with little $$. these seemed like a good option, but i dont want to blind others on the road.

I can tell you that as i said earlier the full progector kit will be the best way but then it all has to be totally custom and it will run you at least $300 - $500. Where the kit is only $75. Mine are brighter than my normal lights but there is not any more "glare" it is just righter where it was before.

It is up to you and if you have the cash go for the full conversion, be sure to post pics of it if you do it. But the kit should work fine.

Im also concerned about running the real deal retrofit or the kit because I actualy wheel my truck. If i dip the front end down into some water, are these things gonna crap out on me?

I know that my kit is 100% waterproof and so is that kit in the link if i remember right. not sure about the full deal retrofit though.

I put on one of 4crawlers upgraded wiring harnesses and it made a good difference in the brightness of my totally stock lights:

Years ago I ran some 100 W halogen lights in a Honda Accord and ran into some trouble with the law in one California town. It seems they were illegal in the state of Ca. (I was visiting from Colorado at the time) The cop only saw the low-beams too, if he'd seen the high-beams he really would have been pissed.
