What is this thing in front of the radiator?

I have a 1990 SR5 4runner. Last week I hit a dear on the interstate and it wrecked my front end (fortunately no one but the dear was injured). However, after I removed the bumper and grill I noticed this 2 pronged wire that looks like it was attached to the front of the radiator. Does any know what it is/does? How should I re-attach it? Thanks.

If they used the same setup as the Surf's, (which I would assume they would), they're wired for a horn either side.

Simple way to find out is to connect multimeter probes to the connectors and get someone to press the horn switch. If you read 12V when they do, it's definitely a horn connection.

A small rectangular piece hooks to those wires , for the a/c evaporator its a sensor or resisitor , Not really sure but I have seen them right there.

well duh, why didn't I think of that the first time I read this post, lol

yeah a multimeter, or even just a 12v test light, would be your friend here

That is the blower resistor for the AC. Those two wires connect to tabs on it, and it looks like the tabs are broken off yours.

Thanks for the feedback. From the wiring diagram it looks like you are right cadman. I guess the question now is it important and if so how do I re-attach it. The resitor feels like it is made of plastic and the ends of the wires look very corroded. The A/C still works fine and is blowing cold air, so I might just leave it alone.

If the tabs are broken off the resistor, there is no fix except to buy a new one. I replace the one on my wife's 4Runner a couple months ago and it cost about $30 from the dealer. Your AC will still function without it, but I think it controls the small auxillary fan in front of the radiator. Not sure exactly what it does, but probably related to air temp at the front of the vehicle.
