checked on autozone's website, and they list iridium plugs for my 87 truck..i use iridium in my lancer (performance). could this be correct? if not what plugs should i be using?
daily driver no off road yet

i use the Bosch Platinum +4s with no problem...
i wonder how the Pulstars perform in the toyota pickups...

Just Installed Bosch Platinum +4s and the Bosch Mag Opti-Layer Wires. They seem to work out just fine for me but now I am concerned. Why are you guys saying "no Platinum crap" or "Bosch and Toyota don't go together"?

 

well from what ive herd, its better to use older style spark plugs on older toyotas because the new ones like e3 diamond fire and all that platinum irraiduim can almost harm the engine..

but this is what ive herd, im most likely wrong but i though id chime in my .02cents

 

when i had Bosch 4's in my MR2 my engine ran hot like a mother.
and it did not run great. i went back to NGK and it ran less hot and it was great...at that time did not have funds to get better ones.

I also heard and read that Bosch works great for American cars and NGK for imports and so on.

If your truck runs fine with a brand other than Denso or NGK, don't worry about it. The heat range is the important thing. I personally think there's a lot of myth around using other brands.

As an example....
I have a Beck/Arnley coolant temp sensor in my 22re. It reads in the right tolerances, so the ECU is satisfied. How long will it last compared to a Denso unit I couldn't tell you. But, it's been in for over a year now with no problems. Also, I have a Stant thermostat as opposed to Denso. Had to drill a hole to get the same operation as the Denso, but it was near half the cost and the motor's happy. Opens and shuts when it's supposed to. However, I have found Toyota PCV valves are more sensitive to crankcase pressure for a greater length of usage. They do seem to be made better than the generic ones.

All that being said, I run Denso stock plugs. Hell...they're only $2.99 a piece....and they work great. Fine quality. And, I run NGK ignition cables. Even those are high quality for what I consider a fair price. 8yrs and they're still running strong.

Were you running a modified performance engine, this might be a different story.

 

Factory ignition parts and thats it, bosch belongs on euro cars denso and ngk belong on jap cars. The rest are just gimmick's

 

If it aint broke dont fix it! I just use what the FSM recommends
