What is this, and should it be plugged in?
I did a motor rebuild, and I don't know what this is, and I can't remember if this plug is supposed to be hooked up to anything....
Thanks guys

It's a 92 22RE, and no, no lights come on.
I do have a engine sputter and it KNOW it's something to do with the ECU cause it happens only under certain circumstances. I think this sensor might have something to do with it.
I have Chiltons sitting in front of me, but these F'n things are useless.

it retards the timing when it senses engine knock or octane ping...etc. It wont throw a code or cause any problems till 1700rpm, and should b plugged in if you dont wanna burn lots of gas, and have even less power.

Dude, this could totally save me. Sputter is around 1800, under easy throttle movement. Seemed low on power too for being fresh rebuilt. I am putting the truck on the lift as we speak, hopefully I can figure this out.

Yeah you should plug it in. It will mess with your fuel mixture and make your truck run like crap. Mine was faulty and one day it wouldn't start. Don't want that happening to you now do you?

I think if Toyota put the sensor on the motor, there's going to be a wire there, or at least there use to be one, lol
have you priced a new knock sensor? yeah, that's be stupid to put something priced like that on there if it's not going to be used, lol
everyone's right, 22re, knock sensor; really need to peel your wiring harness apart and find that wire and plug it in

Yes, you're right. It was on the block when I bought the truck. I don't remember if I un-plugged somthing there, or not. Lol.

on my truck the wire on that sensor is just dangling. i was told that it was for the oil pressure guage.... i don't have a op guage in my cluster so i never bothered messing with it.... but now that you guys are saying it's a knock sensor i need to know where the other end goes
does anyone have a picture? or detailed info on where the wire goes from that sensor?
i've had a random sputtering/bucking problem for awhile now
