What ratio might these gears be?
I have a '90 4runner with 4.10 gearing on 32x11.50. I'd like to go to 4.88's. A buddy of mine has a rear axle and front end from a '94 Auto trans 4runner. Would that mean they are either 4.56's or 4.88's due to it being an auto? Also, how could I check what ratio they are without the vin number, thanks.

The axle code may be in the engine compartment on the firewall directly behind the engine. Read the link here to find out what code means what.

That you can count on, lower gears I mean. The other likely candidate is 4.30. I have 4.30s that i swapped out of an automatic 4Runner on my truck. Never heard of an auto with 4.10, but strangely I have heard of automatics with 3.90s. I'm thinkin' they were 2WD, anyway they would be rare on a 4WD that's for sure. O.K., I checked that link(above), that's where I seen that. Says some 81 4WDs had the 3.90s, and the 2WDs.
