Til it sat overnight full of fluids and then there was a big puddle of water.
Thankfully I use water for engine break in.
Crap!
Bad intake gasket install on my part?
So to make sure...
RTV'd around water passages, didn't/don't know if gasket can be reused.
Top off manifold w/ water. Drip, drip, drip out of exhaust manifold.
So I call the engine shop, they say pull it. "We pressure tested our blocks"
Ok.
8 hrs after I started this, the engine is on the stand.
Pull the exhaust xover to find problem. Lo and behold.
Drivers side rear most exhaust port is WET.
At least it's not MY fault this time.
The engine has a 7yr warranty and I've only got it spun over enuff to bring up oil psi and move water.
They're suppose to take care of it ASAP but I've still gotta get the engine to'em.


BTW the only good way to pull a 3.slo starter is drop inner fender skirt, pull A/C, loosen 2 driver side motor mount bolts ( for jack ), remove passenger motor mount w/ jack holding up leading edge of oil pan. Jack up engine a lil.
There is NO easy way to pull one, that's fer sure.

 

i did the starter without all that.

 

I pulled my starter with a few ratchet extensions & pulled it out the access port behind the right wheel. It was a PITA, but doesn't require all THAT...

 

yeah i did my new starter a few weeks ago with some wobble sockets and rachets. took about two hours for everything

 

Yep, that's how long it took w/ jacking the engine. I don't know about anyone else's truck but for all the cussing while trying it w/o jacking the engine.....
It wasn't the reaching the bolts part that was hard, it was the getting the nose outta the bellhousing/block plate, then past bellhousing and motor mount.

But it's the R&R of the engine that takes the PITA time.

 

Hmmm, I had to drop the frount diff a little to get mine out.

 

Starter will come right out via the small inspection panel under the rubber flap. If you took more than that off, you were just wearing out your ratchets.

 

I use a 24" extension to get to the starter on my 22r. I can get it off in less than 2 minutes =P

Without the extension its very very difficult to fit anything in there to turn the bolts.
