'99 Tacoma, or '89 Pickup? There was no '89 Tacoma.

For the 1989 toyota PICKUP, standard 4 cyl engines were.

2wd base 22r
4wd 22re

The 22re changed after 85, got a little more powerfull.

Just incase.. the 1999 Tacoma 4cyl is a 2.7L with 150hp and 180some odd ftlbs of torque ( nearly the same as the 3vze v6 found in 1988-95 pickups and 4runners).

i'm guessing you meant 89 p/u because you are comparing it to an 85 22re.

the standard motor is the same one, so it will probably be the same or marginally better.

Thanks guys. I want the newer 3ZR motor, this is not what I want to spend the money on for my 4Runner.
Thanks for the fast answers.
