What makes it hard to put in gear?

I only have trouble putting it in 1st and 4th. It goes in but I have to use a little muscle.

My 87 2wd Trans has new fluid, new slave cylinder, clutch pedal mount ok, and now a short shifter.
Can it just be wear and tear?

Ocassionally a sticky clutch pilot bearing is found to be the culprit.

Usually, it is poor clutch disengagement, for whatever reason.

Clutch hydraulics, air in hydraulics, warped clutch plate, ect, ect, ect.

Looks like you have already covered some of the bases.

I was told it's the original clutch....
When I was replacing the slave cylinder I wanted to replace the clutch master cylinder but my friend told me if it's not leaking it's fine. Maybe that's the culprit?
Tomorrow morning I'll try adjusting the clutch pedal linkage.
I don't even drive this truck because of this problem. Nothing like being at a light, the light turns green and you can't put it in 1st

I take it the correct bushing did not cure the problem ??

Master and slave should be changed together unless it is one of those in a parking lot repairs I don`t miss.

It goes into 2nd and 3rd just fine ?? Reverse ??

If it goes in those gears that pretty much rules out a clutch issue

Since you have quite a few threads about this vehicle

Is this new to you ??

All these issues sort of attacked all at the same time ??

Mileage ??

I had a few that when the Transmission got old and tired I had to shift to second then into first to have it go into gear smooth.

I have big feet and sometimes I don`t get the clutch in far enough

Mine is doing that....

I adjusted the push rod - helped a bunch
Put in a Marlin shifter seat and tip - got rid of the shifter slop

Bleed/flushed the brake fluid - used the "block" technique with a large 6" opening C clamp
That REALLY helped.

But its still balking going into First or Reverse.

The rear main seal is leaky
the truck was in storage for 9 years
I think it has Redline synth oil in the box

I probably have thrashed synchros

The trucks as 370K on the odo
The W56 is my third one - I think it was the original one, that was "rebuilt".after 5th gear blew.

So I'll just drive it (carefully) until I swap in a R150 trans
(I have a turbo bell housing, and can use a Marlin adapter to get the transfer case attached to the back)

I ordered the 88-95 SS kit because it had the same bolt pattern and it came with the white bushing. When I spoke to a tech at LCE he told me it sounded like I had the wrong bushing and it was too high. Well I installed my original bushing and it shifted fine while parked but then I drive around for a good while and 1st and 4th get stuck. Reverse would all ways have a really bad grind. It got better with this installed.
I ordered a red bushing earlier.

This truck is new to me, I know nothing about its history other than the original owner had it for like 27 years on a small farm. 2nd owner a year and now me. My mother in law had if for a few months then gave it to me.
This truck has been seriously neglected. If only I would have taken a picture of the thick syrup oil that I drained from the engine. The brake hoses where falling apart and the radiator hoses were about to burst.
I'm trying to catch up the maintenance on this truck.
Only one of my friends has helped me out. Everyone else shoes no interest in my truck.
My truck has 160k miles, long bed, sagging RR leaf spring needs a timing chain, this Trans problem and other small things I haven't worked on. I want to me lake this truck reliable so I can drive it to my job as a DD
