What the hell should I do?

Now, on to the second issue. Let's talk about the scraping sound when the truck is out of gear and the clutch pedal is not pushed in. My hunch on that one is that the throwout bearing is headed south, but where does the noise seem to be coming from? Also, has the clutch ever been replaced?

I'm going to take a better more thorough listen to it tomorrow. See if I can get a good video. Thanks for all your help folks.

yep. Now to figure out the best possible way to swap. Guy told me I could drop the pan and roll the bearing as long as the tab hadn't bent over or been just sheared off, or it doesn't just look like black death in there but that seems like a long shot. Not a repair they'd do in the shop since it's not promising.

Honestly, the best thing to do is to pull out the engine and either get it rebuilt or replaced, taking care of the clutch at the same time. I would pull the engine and transmission together and deal with them out of the truck. You’re 100% it’s rod knock? That is a dull thump from down low by the oil pan area. It’s not a tick from the top of the engine.

buying any 30 year old toyota especially with a 3.0 is a crap shoot.
Toyota had my 97 tacoma with 20,000 miles for 7 weeks when i thought it was the throw out bearing. They rebuilt the transmission twice, guess what it came back with...the same noise it started with.

The truck looked to be in overall good condition in the picture you posted. What do you think you could get for it while it's still running? If you do that and take the money you're not spending on the rebuild, you maybe could get into something in decent shape that can give you some good service. This might be a truck for somebody with the time and garage space to pull the drivetrain and go through it. When they get through, they'll have a nice ride.
