one of the older mechanics I knew used to say that way back when, rather than changing the oil in a car, they would cut the ends off a loaf of bread and run the oil through it to filter it...the loaf of bread was cheaper than new oil. Maybe someone tried this with yours?

lets focus on what would be good to find in there.

1. becuse who-ever tears into it next time is not gonna be in a happy mood,
2. it may never be found, so something cheap, and accessible
3. something that will be better with age.

like a playboy, wrapped in a ziplock.
it would certainly take my mind off of the truck for a while...and who doesnt like playboy...

4. something that is plausible until you think about it, then doesn't make sense.

how about put an oil drain plug inside the pan then take it to a mechanic and say you went outside and found oil all over the driveway and found the plug missing so you went to the parts store, bought another plug and some oil. then you were driving around and heard some knocking in the oil pan.

A pushrod would be confusing, as our trucks are Over Head Cam.

I was thinking about putting in some parts from something completely different, like a fishing reel. Then they would keep wondering where in the engine it was from and put it back together thinking they did it wrong.

My buddy drives an Explorer, and after me showing him this thread, he posted the same thing over on the Explorer (Exploder, heh) Forums, and it was soon deleted as the moderator called it tasteless and un-funny.
I love this place

this may not be soo funny to us, but the last mechanic is having a ball!
he quit cause they wouldnt give him a raise, i had one of the trucks stop running, itd crank, but no start (its an 01 ford f250 w/6.0 diesel) they dont pay me enough to pull the engine so i sent it to the stealership. i guess the guy that quit did an oil pan reseal an left a rag, but left out the screen , eventually it was picked up and wouldnt create enough oil pressure to work the injectors sorry so long!

That's because theres probably always broken bits in an Exploder's oil pan, an another one just isn't funny. Surprising in a way though that they didn't find it humourous. They must have good senses of humour over there, they did buy Fords afterall.
