So I have a question for ya all
How much differance would be moticed going from my 529's to 571's?
my 529 and 5 speed with 35 12.5 15's still have me down shifting on hills would the 571's help any?

Also getting geared up for a 2nd gen s/c 3.4 swap will this come into play any??

I know, my truck had the 31" tire option, V6 auto, so it should be 4.88's but my axle code on the door jam, my pinion colour and checking it manually all show 4.56. Oh well. It's not bad for right now, SAS this spring, do 5.29's then, should bring back some newfound power.

That would be an unusual combination. As in, it didn't have 31's from the factory, likely the dealer put them on. The more common gearing for factory 3.0/auto/31's was 4.88.

A couple hundred RPM - and it makes all the difference in the world with how fast the powerband drops off below 3000 RPM. All that said, if you can live with it until you do your motor swap, it would save you a bunch of money as your current gearing will be fine with the 3.4

I wouldnt run anything but 5.29s with 35s if you want to keep up with highway traffic.....

I have 5.29s and 36s with a 22re and I can do 90 on the highway....

pretty damn peppy around the city too

http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html

I have been using this site as a good reference.
although I have to warn you that counting the gears is the only sure fire way to know what the ratio is. I have found in the past that the a/tm code and the color code in this site conflict and would not trust the color code alone.

Hope this helps

BTW I am looking for a 4:56 rear end for my truck to run with 31"s anyone have one they want to get rid of?????

TC, I was under the impression that only trucks with the 31" tire option came with the rear swing out carrier, which mine has. I don't think the dealer would be installing that as it requires a fair amount of modification to a new vehicle. Oh well. Like I said, the 4.56's are fine around town, highway I need to downshift more than usual on hills or to pass, but around where I live most driving is around town.
