What is the gas tank size for 1st gen 4runners?

I know this is a stupid question but im asking because i want to know how much gas is remaining once the fuel light pops up. It just took me 51 litres to fill up about after the light pops up.

My first gen had a fuel light that would come on when I had about a gallon left, and mine had the 17+ also. MPG = 18 - 22

should I run it out of gas to see if my low fuel light comes on? (JK) I've got the SR5 guages, so I would assume I should have the light too, no? anyone have this dash without a low fuel light?

yeah it has to have one it may just be burned out. The way to check is to turn ur key to the ON position right before you crank it. All the lights on the dash should turn on and if the gas light doesnt pop up it means that its burned out. Even my basic speedocluster with no tach has the light.

i have a feeling it depends on whether you have the 22re or 3.slow. Cause iv heard of some being 17.3Gallons and others being 14.3. Im gona check my OG owners manual to see if it says anything

There's a post on PIRATE4x4 that has Pics on how to tell which tank you have.

I vaguley recall its 6" vs 8" from the seam to the bottom of the tank measured near where the drive shaft passes the tank...

both 14 & 17 gallon tanks were offered. they have different pump hanger assemblys and different sending units. the pumps iirc are the same or can easily be modified to work.

are you sure about that because all my basic cluster did not have a light nor a place to put a bulb it the back.

My light is burnt out, but i usually drive to where it goes below the "E" line... which means it takes 55-58 litres to fill up.

Oh, and i think they all have the same size tank, just there is two types of gallons, imperial and standard

65 liters = 14.2979952 Imperial gallons
65 liters = 17.1711833 US gallons
