this is just after i did a timing chain job and replaced the headgasket. what does it mean? as you can see the puddle that is dried is like a rusty color

 

I read on here the other week that it's perfectly normal for a good running engine. Something to do with the CO2 meeting the platinum in the cat. converter and it creates water. Do you have water in your oil?

 

it didnt do this before. but i might have coolant in the oil. i have a pretty bad timing cover gasket leak. i hope it hasnt mixed in with the oil somehow

 

It is normal for an engine that is running correctly to emit water from the tail pipe.

It is all in the chemical reaction.

C8H18 (gasoline)+ O2 reacts in your engine and out comes CO2 and H2O

We'll you're supposed to put a new gasket on when you do the timing chain!!! I'd double check to make sure there is nothing in between.

But the stuff coming out would mean its getting into the cylinder somehow, and pushing it through. How is your coolant level? Have you done a compression test? Yes, water is normal, but I've never seen brown water, unless thats just residual rust from the exhaust pipe.

 

Its just condensation, its normal.

 

If the head gasket had blown before you changed it , there might be some water caught in the exhaust. I replaced a motor in a 86 that had done this and it dumped water out of the tailpipe. It took a while to burn off. other wise it is normal.

 

i did put a new headgasket and timing cover gasket on. lol actually 2 head gaskets, and 3 timing cover gaskets. dont ask i like doing things twice hahah. but now i can o a timing chain on this truck blindfolded. made a bunch of mistakes and had to do it twice lol.



but yes it is rust. when i took the exhaust mani off the remove the head i had to bang on it a little, and when i first started the truck up afterwards it blew chunks of rust out of the exhaust
