What are common issues w/ 4Runners?

I know it sounds like a newbie questions, mostly because I am a newbie...

I've had mine for 3 days, and have already had to rebuild 1 front brake, fix the e-brake handle, begin fabbing up sheet metal to fix some body rot, and decide what I'm going to do w/ the rear window/motor...

I've been told that the 22RE's had issues w/ lifters seizing or colapsing (HLA's if it's OHC), issues w/ throttlebody kickdown etc...

What other common issues are there?? I can't imagine too many.. It's a Toyota..

JT

PS- CEL is on, and the car must be running a 7-8.1:1 A/F Ratio.. I'm thinking O2, before I get the codes run...

22Re's have solid lifters. There is no collapsed lifter problem possible on them.

Most of the problems you have and they have in general are lack of maintance.

If you plan to wheel it hard then keep and eye on the idler arm. On the 90 up there is a recall on the drag link get that taken care of.
Put a brace on the rear lower a-arm brackets.

Rust in the frame at the arear just before it starts to go up over the axle is the most common rust belt problem.

Don't do "Guess and spend auto repair". Go through the diagnostics. Invest in a shop manual.
