what color PAINT?
#1
Where do you find the paint color on 4runners? I looked in the door jam, its not there. Spent a good 3 hours grinding rust off the tailgate and treating it with rust converter, then realized I didn't have anything to paint it with, so I have black blotches all over my tailgate.
It looks bad.
I heard there was a number in the VIN number that said what color it was?
bahh
it's a 95 (the one in my avatar), kind of a tannish gold color, anyone know what it was called back in 95?

The paint code may be in your VIN. Go to 4crawlers site and you can decode y our VIN there. If not, there is a company that makes match paint for is fixer up ers, for a price of course. http://www.expresspaint.com/

Look on the white info plate inside the drivers door.
There will be a set with the following: C/TR
that is your color code/trim code. Should be a 3 digit code(color)/4 digit (trim)
It will look like this:
4M4/JD44
or something like that.
btw 4M4 is Toyotas code for gold in a 95 4runner, with JD44 a tan interior.

thanks all, I got some paint last night and it matches up well enough for now, I am thinking of having it professionally repaired... the rust has eaten through at least half of the upper ledge on the tailgate... i dont think the bondo will last for long
