I have just pulled my 3vze with a blown head gasket and got another 3vze with only 85,000 miles on it from a neighbor. I have the newer engine on a stand and am wondering, what do I replace now or at least
inspect or adjust before I throw it in the rig? Same with the transmission , I have both of them sitting here and do not know which one I should use. This will be a daily driver. I have already decided to delete the exhaust crossover during the process as well.1995 4Runner
Check and make sure the oil sender and all the other plugs work with your vehicles harness, while your at it you could check and see if any of the hard to get at seals are leaky. Other than that I’d stuff it in there and fire it up.

Depends on how deep your pockets go. Front and rear main seals, Valve cover gaskets at the least. Spark plugs, plug wires, belts etc.. Anything looks like it needs replacing? headgaskets could be a good idea since its on a stand. Timing belt depending on how it looks which could mean new water pump too. Always a good I idea with any "new engine" to pull the oil pan and peep in side for anything concerning.
As for the transmissions, I would just change the fluids. The r150fs are pretty beefy.
I'd be pulling off the timing covers and inspecting everything underneath along with the water pump. A lot easier to replace now rather than in the vehicle

Ok, I’d rather deal with it now rather than later as well.
Heads are off and headed to a machine shop this week for inspection, injectors are headed for cleaning as well. Will probably order a rear main seal and pigtail for the knock sensor. Also, timing and water pump kit, belts and pulleys, head gasket, and valve cover gaskets.

Thats a lot of peace of mind for many miles..some install headers on the 3.0 claiming it prevents failure of head gasket…
