Then the clamp bolt will hold that in place. The purpose of the spacer is to allow the shaft to push into the clamp far enough to allow it to hold it securely. In fact the black mark on the shaft shows the amount it pulls out due to a 2" body lift (I went from 1" to 3" lift, marking the position at 1"). So the spacer is of course thinner than the lift is tall.

Well I can't explain what was popping out but I do know for a fact that when the two shafts were apart at the end waiting for the extension the shaft weight pulled it out of a joint? or something idk all I know is the shafts were all tight outside and inside the firewall but it was popping out somewhere in the steering wheel.Do you recommend me removing the steering wheel and seeing what is up?

Probably pulled out of the top clamp (pictured above). But it may be a good idea to find out where the popping sound is coming from. Never heard of that happening before, so no ideas on what it may be.

well i don't mean popping as a sound even tho it did that I mean something was pulling out in the steering wheel assembly like the steering will could spin all it wanted and would turn a single shaft.

Well if the shaft pulled out of the upper clamp the steering wheel of course would spin freely. If putting int he spacer and reinserting the lower shaft into the upper clamp fixes that problem, then all is normal. If it does not fix the spinning problem, then something else is going on.

well I got up this morning to work on the firewall and the plate is not adjustable in any way what so ever It is in a indention designed for that plate to sit in,it is help in by 6 bolts and the plate has tapped threads there was no moving it without drilling new holes and longer bolts so I said the hell with it and got a flathead screw driver and hammer and bent the firewall enough for the clearance of the steering shaft.All seems to be well except the play in the steering wheel but ill get used to it.

That works as well, whatever is takes to get clearance for the shaft. I guess the later trucks have a different design, my '85 has the 3 bolts and is adjustable. Toyota probably saved money by making it fixed.
