Weird overheating problem
My 87 runner seems to keep overheating. I have replaced the entire engine (22re) about 4 months ago. New radiator. New thermostat. I flushed all the coolant. The problem started about 3 weeks ago when all of a sudden, the truck overheated. It was over a gallon low on coolant. I checked the radiator and oil for signs of mixing, but none. After a few times of this happening, the coolant finally started to show up in the oil. However, the oil level didn't go up, it just got a little milky. We just got done replacing the head gasket yesterday, but the bad news is that the gasket looked good. So the question is: why and how did the coolant mix with the oil? If I was wrong about the head gasket, then it will still continue to overheat. Thanks for any support.

the other thing I didn't mention is that the truck lost about 3 or 4 gallons of coolant before we changed the head gasket, but the coolant wasn't showing up in the oil or on the ground. So i dont know if it was burning it while driving or just some leak only while it was driving??

Possible...or the throttle body gasket. Could be pulling coolant into the cylinders and burning it off slowly. Any white smoke/steam in the exhaust? Run it a bit, shut it down, remove the air intake tube and smell for coolant from the throttle body.

either way, intake gasket or IAV, it's downhill into the cylinders from there so the coolant would only have to drip.
