Hi this is my first post, this sites awesome. I run a '88 yota pickup and whenever Im turning left or right theres rattling coming from the front and when I make sharp lefts or rights at slow speeds theres a horrible popping noise, Has anyone had this problem before? What kind of expense am i looking at? Thanks.

Pop pop fizz fizz, that would be your steering stops in the IFS.

have you checked the disc brake shields or maybe the grill or lower valance for the cause of the rattle?
... and the clicking or popping may be the steering stops or if your hubs are locked the outer cv... or ball joints if they're really dry

And just for extra info, when your hearing the rattling noise when turning, is that on a smooth road or bumpy, like turning over a speed bump or anything?

Might want to check out your cv boots as well to see if their torn. That can give you a rattle noise or slight popping noise when turning.

The popping sound is the steering stops for sure. As far as the rattles go I would do a search and see what you can dig up.

The Search feature is the most valauble feature of this board - and most other forums too for that matter.

There is a lot of info on this board, in order to find 99.5% of it you will need to search.

After second thought and a Sobe, I might get the rattle at almost full lock, but not far enough to make it grind, if that makes sense.

Thats where my cv idea comes into play. Had a 87 New Yorker with a torn boot that popped/rattled on every right hand turn and worse when hitting a bump or pot hole.

being a former 84 chrysler laser owner (which shared the chassis with the new yorker / le baron), I know about cv sounds... however the noises I heard from bumps was usually the POS upper strut mount.
