weather deflector clips

I'm installing a set of used OE weather deflectors to my 92,I've cleaned off the old oxidized double sided tape and am ready to install on the truck.
The clips are still on them attached with the little black plastic (press on?) button/pin things and need to come out for relocation of the clips.
I don't want to damage them so before I start levering with a flat screw driver or hauling on them with pliers what is the best way to release those little guys?
Thanks
