I don't really understand the concept of the knock sensor having a shielded system. I do a little but I just don't care anymore. Wasn't there someone who was making replacements. I've got a new knock sensor and the short wire from sensor to harness is crispy and crunchy. I hate code 52. Does anyone have a good one for sale or how much does it cost at the dealer. I'm tired I just want it to stop throwing the code. Can anyone help? Using my iPhone makes it harder to find this part. But it's all I have. What can I do while I have it exposed. The dealer isn't open today.

Wesley, read over the Code 52 Tech thread which is linked in my signature.

To clarify for you, code 52 is really a simple problem. It's what happens when the ECU does NOT receive a signal from the knock sensor. It's just an electrical problem, which narrows it to:

- knock sensor wiring
- Kncok sensor
- ECU (not usually the problem)

So if your dealer really wants to rip you off, it might set you back a sawbuck.

Just get it from the dealer.

 

I am pretty sure that the pig tail wire itself is not shielded, but the rest of the wire is. A regular female spade connector will work, but I have no idea how the heat from a V6 is going to effect it after a while. When I was in the process of fixing my Code 52, an unshielded jumper wire running out the fender well and through the passenger door to the ECU would work, but when I tried to route it through the firewall I would get a Code 52. I ended up using a piece of coax and the KS connector from the above mentioned pig tail.

 

I just ordered the 82219-89103 from Toyota of Carson for eleven bucks and change. Gonna tackle this project tomorrow along with the intake mani gaskets and the PCV valve.

Don't use a spade connector. The OEM connectors are very well sealed and make a secure connection that won't corrode. A spade connector is a hack job.
