Warning Buzzer Location?

Anyone know where the warning buzzer that alerts the driver that the keys are in the ignition when the door is open is located?

i have been wondering about this also. i have tried to find the buzzer many times...i can muffle the sound by putting my hand in different areas, but i havent found the exact place. also does anyone know if it can be taken out like the ones in the late 90's gmc's or chevys? that thing gets real annoying after about 10 seconds. thanks all.

I'll look for the thing tomorrow, and let you know if I find it. I had originally cut the wires from the door plunger switch several years ago to get rid of the noise but now I actually want to use the damned thing for something entirely different.

I just took mine out of my 88. it is a black box about 2''x3''. mine was located right above the steering collum and it took about 2 minuts to find and remove it.

I found mine, just by listening and poking my finger around. As I recall it's a little round thing.
No, I couldn't pull it out like on a Chevy, dunno why...so I thought, "why not kill this SOB?" (Stupid Ol Buzzer)
So I got a drill..probably a 1/4inch bit, I dunno...stuck it on there and drilled through it. No more buzz.
No need for the paper, maybe you need that if your hole is too small.

best way i found is to use a mechanic's stethoscope or simply just use a flexy tube and poke around w/ one end in your ear and probe around until the sound gets louder. as a previous poster said, typically its behind a fuse box. in the 99 4runner though, its behind the instrument cluster. search the forum and you will find my 98 and 99 4runner buzzer disabling threads

but photoleif's method is soooo much better

Saw this thread and just wanted to go find mine just to make sure that it was disconnected and not broken. Turns out it had already been disconnected. In my '88, it's right above the steering column. And that little light that plugs in under the dash came to the rescue to help my vision. That buzzer doesn't matter much to me though. Where I live, you can just leave your keys right in the ignition with the windows rolled down and not have to worry.
