if possible i would go with the 350 turbo. Great transmission!! I am afraid that the added HP and torque would not fair to well in the long run with the yota transmission

If that 350 is built up, I'd consider moving to the turbo 400.

v6 5spd could handle the power of a 350 (r-150/r-150f)

A lose rule of thumb:

The w56/58 can take under the 300 lb/ft torque range. The R150f is the way to go if you can, still I would not rate it sizeably more for torque handling.

Turbo 400 is the winner, but again between the w56 or turbo 350, I'd go 350.

not that the w56 is a bad or weak tranny, but your talking about alot of power and torque that that tranny just isnt meant for, the turbo 350 would be a better choice.

TH350/400, 700R4 are all good suggestions.

Have you checked out Downey-offroad.com? They have a large conversion chart, with adapters and their recommendations. They do not recommend the W56 with a chevy 350cid engine. The V8 has too much torque for it.

personally i went with the 262 or 4.3 conversion to my r-150f great choice plenty of power im runnin fac gears 33's and a 4.3 and all i can say is good bye Z71's great low end and runs cooler

i guy around here did the swap into his 85 4 runner and has had cooling probs ever with a flex fan and electric fan on either side of his 4 core racing radiator

the w56 should handle the 4.3 no prob and will run better

but if you are hell bent on the 350 like i was until i got hit by a sudden urge of sense go with a turbo 350 tranny other wise the 4.3 is all you need
