Update, my trans mechanic called me up after I brought the rebuilt home. He said he may have put the wrong main bearing in, and reverse may not work. This has been the tricky part to this rebuild. Apparently there are two main bearing sizes with only the thickness being different. I took it back down to him and he is now done installing the correct one. Picking it up tomorrow and going to put it the truck in the next day or so. I'll let you all know how it goes. If he does a good job I will recommend him to those in the Salt Lake area, he seems to be fair and honest even though he is a bit rough around the edges.

UPDATE:

Finished the install on the rebuilt transmission. It is perfect! The guy replaced all bearings and synchros and cleaned every part. Absolutely no noise in any gear, shifts real smooth with the Marlin shifter socket and bushing seat. This guy did a top notch job for a very fair (bargain )price. If anyone needs their tranny rebuilt in the Salt Lake area, let me know and I will give you all the information.

Gear Oil:

After lots of reading here on oil. I decided to follow BigMikes advise. I used Sta-Lube GL-4, it's inexpensive as well. I mixed this with half a quart of Pennzoil Synchromesh. I put a little extra in because the tranny was dry. I plan on changing the oil in few thousand miles and adding some Redline MT-90.

The W56 in my truck had the 5th gear whine. Worked great, just a slight whine in 3rd and a decent whine in 5th.

The $250 used one I swapped in whines in 1st and 2nd and the synchros crunch between all gears. I'm done with used transmissions.
