Vibration

The runner is running a bit rough... The symptoms are the same from when the U-Joints went out about a year ago- but they were replaced. The vibratioin is slight at 3k+ but under 3k it becomes worse and worse. It also has no vibration in neutral.

Any idears?

I'm having a similar problem. Vibration smooths out over 100 km/h (60 mph). Gets worse on downshifts, very little vibration while clutch is in. No vibration when engine is revved with no load. It's almost like driving on rumble strips.

Anyone?

Anyone?

I'm not sure that mine have ever been replaced. I rolled the window down today and drove slowly, going on and off the throttle. There is a definite clanking sound coming from underneath, so I guess she goes up on the ramps this weekend and I'll pull the drive shaft. Good thing I got the factory service manuals off eBay.

Did you stick with Toyota U-joints last time around or aftermarket?

Check the pinion nuts and bearings as well. Everyday I get closer to changing these.

Depends on what brand you got. If you bought them from autozone or such, it's possible they are gone. Did you replace ALL of them last time? There are a ton of them on the 4x4. I can think of 4 right off the bat.

I know for sure that mine grenaded the rear U-joint and that's where the noise was coming from. Now I'm having a heck of a time trying to press the spider bearings out of the thing.

Check and make sure that the flange on the xfer case (both for the front and rear driveshaft) is correctly tightened.
If not, it'll cause that vibration for sure.
