he said an aussie or lockrite wont hold up to my 37's he said ill strip them. After thinkign about it all day yesterday I'm gunna buy my axles and birfs here shortly then pay my CC down a bit then do f/r zip lockers with 5.29's just gunna be the best for me. being able to select front and rear will just be all around a better setup a little bit more but truely worth it in the long run whydo things 2x you know?

Ha!

I have no issue with a lockright or Aussie up front. Its in the rear with 37s. They are the most annoying lockers on the market. Pop-pop, click, click, click, bang, BOOM.

Lunchbox lockers are only rated to 33s. In the rear they are just not up to the task. I see many stripped ones come in. In the front, they work just fine, but in the rear, they get too much abuse from everyday driving and eventually the gears can strip and will make things unload a lot more often until they strip.

^^^ exactly why I changed my mind just too much of a PITA even if they were warrentied just the labor involved would be terrible and just not what I want. And I never liked the idea of non selectable up front but thats just me

Vance are you running wheel spacers or IFS hubs? Did you get knuckle gussets on there of any kind? I picked up an axle yesterday, I'm going to have tons of stupid questions for you in the next few months!!

Damn man you move a lot!

Be careful gusseting the knuckle balls, you can actually bend it right there if you dont weld it right. I think it was on either pirate or Marlin theres a thread of a guy actually using gussets to fix a bent axle (bent there behind the ball) and it worked LoL

Needless to say, the reverse of that is possible.

That goes for anything trussing/gusseting of an axle.

Not worth the risk Drew? I assume any welding on the axle housing should be short intervals, quick passes, and lots of time in between?

Oh no it's worth it. Just start at one end, then the other, and work to the middle and slow.

I just 'started' on the top gusset, moved to the bottom gusset and 'started' welding in the same area working the weld toward the knuckle. By alternating top to bottom you're kind of elminating any pull action the welds have UP or DOWN on the knuckle joint. Then went to the other side of the axle and did the same, then back to the other side until both sides were completely welded up. Bascially you just dont wanna run the whole bead all in one shot.

Same with the middle truss, you can fully weld it but you dont want to just run a massive long bead along the truss. Infact mine has 1 1/2" welds every few inches and isnt fully welded.
